B-List Celebrity Sightings

I spent the last week in LA, my home away from home. One thing I love about this town are all the "celebrities" you see when you're there. I use the word "celebrity" loosely here, because in reality you usually see someone you vaguely recognize from TV whose name you don't know (i.e. "Hey, there's the guy who used to be on CSI Miami"). Now that one of my best friends lives in Hollywood these TV personality sightings are becoming more and more frequent.

For instance, the other night my buddy and I went to see the film "Milk" (insert your own joke here) and on our way back home we walked by a high class hotel. Just ahead of us was a tiny Japanese guy with over-produced jet-black hair walking toward Hollywood Boulevard with a hooker on each arm. My friend and I exchanged glances, both of us thinking, "What's the deal with this guy, is he Yakuza or something?" Thus you can imagine our surprise when he and his two ladies turned the corner and we realized he was none other than 1980s child star Corey Feldman (you know, the crazy kid in "Stand By Me," he also has a "reality" TV show on A&E right now). My friend and I couldn't help laughing as we walked away from Mr. Feldman because both of us had been convinced we were looking at a Japanese guy. Who knows, perhaps he's in the Japanese witness protection program.

Less than twelve hours later, the very next morning I was driving around Hollywood rounding up party supplies for New Year's Eve when I bumped into another pseudo celebrity. As I pulled up to a stoplight on Franklin, I happened to glance over to my right and saw none other than Omarosa, chief villainess of Donald Trump's show "The Apprentice." She was driving around town in an expensive looking convertible with some boy-toy, and I have to admit, it wasn't all that exciting to see her, though the coincidence of seeing two quasi stars in such a short timespan struck me as amusing.

Thus you can imagine how surprised I was to spy Britney Spear's gal-pal from her painful film "Crossroads" in line at the supermarket. Truly something was in the air for I had completed the rare impromptu celebrity sighting trifecta in less than 24 hours. Admittedly I couldn't remember what this actress's name was (turns out her name is Taryn Manning) but I did remember that in the movie her character had a miscarriage which oddly brought all the characters closer together.

Needless to say, it was an exciting day. Unfortunately my "lucky" streak ended swiftly because I didn't spot a single celebrity on New Year's Eve...or if I did, I sure don't remember it!

Quote of the day: "I've never really wanted to go to Japan simply because I don't like eating fish, and I know that's very popular out there in Africa."--Britney Spears
